Dr Kivuyo has a background in medicine from University of Dar es Salaam, Tanzania and International Community health from Oslo University, Norway. He is trained in ethics monitoring and familiar with governance of research studies, particularly trials. He is a global health and clinical research expert, mainly in Public Health, Epidemiology and Preventive Medicine with over 17 years research experience. He is the head of NIMR-Haydom research station and Senior Research Scientist for the National Institute of Medical Research (NIMR), Muhimbili Centre in Tanzania. He has coordinated high-impact multi-centre Clinical trials (REMSTART, ACTA etc) that have identified novel biomedical treatment and prevention strategies that are practical, low-cost and effective, which have been incorporated into national and World Health Organization guidelines and led to changes in clinical practice in Africa, in particularly HIV. He has published over 37 scientific articles in National & international Journals, including the Lancet and New England Journals. He supervises and mentors fellows at NIMR, and the Muhimbili University of Health. He is the member of RESPOND AFRICA (https://www.lstmed.ac.uk/RespondAfrica),and coordinator for all the projects under this group in Tanzania. He was awarded twice in 2018 and 2021 as the best Research Scientist at National Institute for Medical Research – Muhimbili Centre.
