Ms. Sia Malekia is a Senior Research Scientist with a Master’s degree in Health Policy & Management and a Master’s degree in Bioethics (MBE) both obtained from the Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences MUHAS, a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology obtained from the University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM), and a Diploma in Clinical Medicine. Ms. Sia Malekia has been working with the National Institute for Medical Research (NIMR) since 2007 and has been a Secretariat member of the National Health Research Ethics Committee (NatHREC) from 2010 - 2021 where she was responsible for coordinating the regulation of health research activities and overseeing Institutional review boards (IRBs). Her area of research is mainly in Human Resources for Health where she has been involved in several research studies that include: Health workers’ motivation; Health workers’ retention and Task shifting; as well as Bioethics, in particular, Research Ethics where she has also been involved in studies that include: Active Health Research Monitoring of IRBs and Pandemic Ethics to mention a few. Ms. Malekia is also involved in coordinating Bioethics teaching where she has facilitated several Bioethics training at MUHAS. She is among the founding members of the Bioethics Society of Tanzania.
