Dr Rehema Simbauranga is a research officer working with the National Institute for Medical Research (NIMR) since 2007. She is a medical doctor by background from Higher Institute of Medical Sciences Santiago de Cuba (Cuba). She holds a master’s degree in paediatrics and child health from Catholic University of Health and Allied Sciences (CUHAS-Bugando). She has about 10 years of working experience in clinical trials. She has been involved in clinical research activities related to anaemia, infectious diseases in advanced HIV, HIV associated central nervous system infections, as well as non-communicable diseases in people living with HIV. She has participated in the implementation of algorithm for integrating the diagnosis and management of HIV associated CNS infections into routine health services at Amana and Mwananyamala hospitals. In collaboration with NACP, she has been involved in the implementation of triple therapy for the management of HIV associated cryptococcal meningitis in Tanzanian hospitals, trained trainers of triple therapy for the management of HIV associated cryptococcal meningitis in Tanzania and she is a clinical mentor on administration of triple therapy for the management of HIV associated cryptococcal meningitis. Furthermore, she was involved in the implementation of CD4 VISITECT technology point of care pilot program.
